Change the Chamber Warns of Long-Term Erosion of Greenhouse Gas Regulations
By The National Climate Fellows at Change the Chamber, September 24, 2026
Change the Chamber warns that the EPA's repeal of the Carbon Pollution Standards puts our health, our wallets, and future climate protections at risk. (Full statement below.)
Change the Chamber, a nonpartisan youth climate coalition, is alarmed by the Trump administration and EPA's repeal of the Carbon Pollution Standards for power plants. We just lived through the hottest summer on record. Now the EPA is letting some of the country's biggest polluters put more carbon pollution into the air. Along with other rollbacks, this could mean up to 69,000 early deaths over the next decade and utility bills up to 25% higher.
The EPA also wants to give up its own authority to regulate this pollution, so future administrations cannot bring these protections back. The Supreme Court has already said twice that the EPA has that authority, and the science has not changed.
We grew up knowing that greenhouse gas pollution is driving the climate crisis. We will live with this decision long after the people making it are out of office. That means worse storms and wildfires, and dirtier air. Kids with asthma will suffer more, as will families living near power plants, many of whom have been breathing this pollution for generations.
We are asking lawmakers to listen to the most vulnerable within these communities, and we are asking regulators to protect all families from higher bills and health costs. If this rule stands, it will not be the last protection to go. When the EPA opens its proposal for public comment, we will be there, and we know many others will show up as well.
